How Does Different Classes of IBD Drugs Affect Intestinal Epithelial Homeostasis and Function?
At UEGW 2024, Arun Sridhar presented a study examining how two different classes of IBD drugs—budesonide and tofacitinib — impact intestinal epithelial function. Homeostasis in the intestinal epithelium is critical for achieving and maintaining mucosal healing. Findings reveal that tofacitinib enhances growth and stem cell markers, while budesonide shows less effect on these areas. Both drugs demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties by reducing chemokine release, highlighting potential implications for IBD treatment.
