A new classification system for perianal fistulising Crohn’s disease

Perianal fistulising Crohn’s disease is an aggressive disease phenotype that can significantly impact the patient’s quality of life. Previous classification systems have not provided clear guidance on therapy in clinical practice nor on defining patient cohorts within clinical trials.

In this MEDtalk, Dr. Jeroen Geldof, Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, University Hospital Ghent, Belgium, presents a new classification system for Perianal fistulising Crohn’s disease, based on an article from The Lancet. The proposed classification is the first of its kind and is an essential step towards tailored standardization of clinical practice for patients with perianal fistulising Crohn’s disease.
