Lars Arendt-Nielsen

Lars Arendt-Nielsen is Head of Research, Professor, Doctor of Medicine, and PhD, affiliated with Aalborg University and Aalborg University Hospital, Denmark. Over the last 35 years, he has established an interdisciplinary, internationally recognized translational and clinical pain research group with clinicians and researchers. His research focuses are: 1) human experimental and clinical pain research; 2) development of human diagnostic pain biomarkers; 3) and screening of new analgesic compounds.

Lars Arendt-Nielsen has published 1,346 peer reviewed journal papers (sum of times cited 49,803, average citations per item 37.71, H-index 106, Web of Science, within pain neurobiology, pain assessment, pain management, clinical and experimental pain, diagnostic bio-markers, itch, profiling of analgesics, clinical trials. Has supervised and completed more than 60 Ph.D. students. He has also been guest professor in Japan, Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, and USA, and received more than 20 national and international honors and awards.

Lars Arendt-Nielsen has been knighted by the Danish Queen and was President-Elect of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), served as president from 2018-2020, and served as immediate past-president from 2020-2022.
