High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound Reduced/Eliminated Tumors in 76% of Patients with Cutaneous Neurofibromas

This study examined high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) to treat cutaneous neurofibromas in patients with neurofibromatosis, a genetic disorder. The study showed that HIFU treatment reduced or eliminated tumors in 76% of cases without significant side effects, scarring, or the need for anesthesia or hospitalization. Katrine Karmisholt presented the study at EADV 2024 that demonstrates HIFU’s safety and effectiveness and suggests potential future applications for treating other benign or pre-malignant skin lesions.
