Cytarabine Dose Intensification Improves Survival in Older Patients with AML

The standard treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is cytarabine infusion with anthracycline (7 + 3 regimen), but in this MEDtalk, Gunnar Juliusson, Professor of Hematology at Lund University and Skåne University Hospital, gives his perspective of a regime with an increased cytarabine dose in induction and consolidation. In the study, patients from a clinical trial were compared with a matched population from the Swedish AML Registry. Since 2005, an increased cytarabine dose has been recommended in the Swedish National Guidelines.
