Ahti Vehmanen
Ahti Vehmanen is a third-year medical student at the University of Turku and has worked for 2 years as a researcher in Jukka Kemppainen's group, which focuses on developing AI models for prostate cancer detection from PSMA-PET images. In November of 2025, he was contacted by Åbo Akademi regarding the UNCAN-connect project. The project focuses on enhancing trustworthy AI in Europe, and he was offered a part-time job as a project assistant to do a literature mapping of physicians' attitudes and trust towards AI in different cancers. That led him and his team to submit an abstract to the European Lung Cancer Conference 2026, and he visited Copenhagen for it in March. His future plans include publishing data related to prostate cancer patient prognosis and better diagnostic evaluation in PET images. These data are largely produced from PET-data that he has prepared for training the models.
