Chronic heart failure: New treatment with old drugs

The DANHEART study tests two commonly prescribed drugs in heart failure patients. The study will test the clinical effect of hydralazine-isosorbide dinitrate (H-HeFT) and metformin (Met-HeFT) in a combined design. H-HeFT will be the first large-scale, randomized study of hydralazine-ISDN in a broader population of heart failure patients. The Met-HeFT study will be the largest randomized study to date of metformin in patients with established heart disease and the first study in heart failure patients designed to address clinical outcomes.
