Estimating Formal Care Costs in Alzheimer’s Disease Using Swedish Registry Data
Yohannes Mengistu Balcha presents a population-based study using Swedish registry data to model annual formal care costs in Alzheimer’s disease. Using a longitudinal cohort of more than 20,000 patients and matched controls, the study applies a two-part model incorporating dementia severity, age, institutionalization, and end-of-life status. Results show sharply increasing costs with disease progression, driven primarily by institutional care, supporting improved health economic evaluation and policy planning.
