AD/PD 2026: Preventing Alzheimer’s Through Early Heart Care

In this MEDtalk from the AD/PD 2026 Conference, Marja Heiskanen, Adjunct Professor at the University of Turku, presents findings from the Young Finns Study, a unique cohort followed from childhood into midlife. Her research shows that long-term exposure to cardiometabolic risk factors, such as high insulin levels and BMI, is associated with early blood-based biomarkers of Alzheimer’s disease. Although the population is still healthy in midlife, these associations are already detectable.
